Step-by-Step Activation & Cultivation Guide

Follow this guide to activate your 2100ml Mondo® Golden Teacher XL kit safely and ensure uniform pinhead formation across the large surface area.

Setup Step	Primary Task	Operational Action
1. Hygiene Prep	Sanitize & Protect	Clean workspace; wear sterile gloves and a face mask.
2. Initial Hydration	12-Hour Cold Soak	Fill 2100ml tub with cold water, cap, submerge 12 hrs in fridge.
3. Large Bag Setup	Position Tub & Bag	Drain water completely; place open tub in large grow bag.
4. Bag Closure	Apply Yellow Seal	Fold bag top twice; lock with yellow seal tab over filter.
5. Daily Moisture	Wall Misting Routine	Spray inner bag walls 4 times daily (never directly on cake).

Step 1: Workspace Hygiene & Preparation

Preventing airborne mold spores and bacteria from reaching your 2100ml cake is essential for long-term setup success.

• Close all open windows and doors to eliminate drafts.

• Sanitize your work surface thoroughly with a surface disinfectant spray.

• Wash hands and forearms, apply hand sanitizer, and put on sterile latex gloves and a face mask.

Step 2: Activating Your Kit (12-Hour Cold Soak)

1. Remove the 2100ml plastic tub from the cardboard shipping box.

2. Fill the tub completely with cold drinking water.

3. Snap the plastic lid back onto the tub and submerge it in your refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) for 12 hours.

4. After 12 hours, remove the tub from the fridge, open one corner of the lid, and drain all excess water completely (allow 10–15 seconds for complete drainage).

5. Rinse the plastic lid, dry it, place it inside its Ziploc storage bag, and keep it inside the cardboard box for future flushes.

Step 3: Bag Assembly & Sealing

1. Place the open 2100ml plastic tub inside the provided large micron-filter grow bag with the opening facing upward.

2. Fold the open top of the grow bag twice, taking care not to cover or block the micron filter strip.

3. Slide the reusable yellow seal tab over the fold to lock the bag shut.

4. Place the setup back into the cardboard box on top of the Ziploc bag containing the lid.

Ideal Environmental Conditions for Peak XL Yields

Maintaining steady climate parameters speeds up pinhead formation and increases overall fruit density across all flushes.

Climate Parameter	Optimal Range	Management Strategy
Ideal Temperature	23°C – 24°C (73.4°F – 75.2°F)	Target baseline for optimal growth.
Temperature Limits	18°C (Min) – 29°C (Max)	Use a thermo heating mat if room drops below 18°C.
Lighting	Indirect ambient daylight	4–12 hours daily; avoid direct sunlight completely.
Relative Humidity	90% – 95%	Maintained by spraying inner bag walls daily.
Air Exchange	1–2 times daily during misting	Unclip bag, spray walls, allow brief air exchange, reseal.

Temperature Control

Keep your grow kit at a stable growing temperature of 23°C to 24°C. If ambient temperatures drop below 18°C during European winter months, place an infrared thermo heating mat managed by a thermostat beneath the setup.

Crucial Setup Precaution: Never place the 2100ml grow box directly onto a heating mat. Place an insulating spacer—such as a piece of folded cardboard or a small wooden trivet—between the mat and the box to prevent the bottom of the substrate cake from overheating and drying out.

Humidity & Misting Routine

Starting the day after initial activation, manage humidity inside the large bag daily:

• Remove the yellow seal tab to open the bag.

• Spray the inner plastic walls of the grow bag once per side (4 sprays total daily).

• Never spray water directly onto the substrate cake or developing mushrooms, as direct water contact can cause aborts or cap rot.

• Reseal the bag immediately using the yellow seal tab to retain moisture and introduce fresh oxygen.

Harvesting Technique & Resetting for Multiple Flushes

The Mondo® Golden Teacher XL kit produces mushrooms in distinct waves called flushes, with the first two flushes delivering the largest mushrooms and heaviest overall weight.

Stage	Operational Action	Critical Visual / Touch Indicator
1. Timing	Harvest before spore drop	Pick right as the thin veil beneath the cap begins to tear.
2. Twist & Lift	Gentle rotational pull	Hold stem base; twist clockwise slowly until it releases.
3. Substrate Clean	Clear aborts & pins	Remove all small pins to leave a clean cake surface.
4. Cold Soak Reset	12-Hour Rehydration	Fill 2100ml tub with cold water, cap lid, submerge 12 hrs in fridge.

When to Harvest

Harvest your Golden Teacher mushrooms just as the protective veil beneath the cap begins to tear. Avoid waiting until caps open fully, as they will release dark purple/black spores across the 2100ml cake. Spores signal the mycelium to slow down fruit production, which can reduce subsequent flush yields.

Proper Picking Technique

1. Put on sterile gloves or sanitize hands and forearms thoroughly.

2. Hold the mushroom stem near its base between your thumb and forefinger.

3. Slowly twist your hand clockwise while applying gentle upward pressure until the stem releases cleanly from the cake. Never yank or pull hard, as this damages the underlying mycelium.

4. Harvest all mature mushrooms along with small premature pins (“aborts”) before resetting the kit.

Resetting for Subsequent Flushes (Cold Soak Process)

To initiate your next flush:

1. Fill the 2100ml plastic tub with cold drinking water and snap the sanitized lid back on.

2. Wrap the sealed tub in a clean plastic bag and submerge it in your refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) for 12 hours.

3. Hang the empty micron-filter bag upside down to dry safely.

4. After 12 hours, remove the tub from the fridge and drain all excess water completely.

5. Place the tub back inside the large grow bag, spray the inner walls, seal with the yellow tab, and resume normal growing conditions.

Troubleshooting & Contamination Control

Preventing & Removing Side-Pins

Because light penetrates clear plastic containers, side-pins can form along the edges of the tub where micro-climates develop.

• Prevention: Wrap the lower outer half of the plastic container with aluminum foil or dark tape before setup to block side light.

• Harvesting Side-Pins: Sanitize your hands, invert the plastic tub onto your clean hand so the cake slides out, pick side mushrooms, and return the cake to the tub before soaking.

Identifying Contamination

• White Mycelium with Golden Brown Caps: Healthy active growth.

• Blue/Purple Tint on Stems: Normal psilocybin oxidation caused by handling or direct moisture contact.

• Green, Red, Grey, or Yellow Colors: Indicates mold or bacterial contamination (such as Trichoderma green mold). If discolorations appear or no growth occurs for 3 weeks after a flush, dispose of the kit outdoors in household waste.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Mondo® Golden Teacher XL grow kit take to produce mushrooms?

First pinheads typically emerge between 5 and 16 days after initial setup. You can harvest your first complete flush of fresh mushrooms within 10 to 21 days under optimal conditions.

What total yield can I expect from a 2100ml Mondo® Golden Teacher XL kit?

A standard 2100ml Golden Teacher XL kit produces a cumulative yield of 100 to 400 grams of fresh mushrooms across 2 to 4 flushes, depending on care, temperature stability, and sanitation.

Can I store the XL kit if I cannot set it up immediately?

Yes. If you cannot activate your kit right away, keep the unopened package sealed inside a plastic bag in your refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C. It can be safely stored for up to 2 weeks from the production date.
